The Sunburst Award Society’s “Copper Cylinder Award” is an annual members’ choice award to be announced in the Fall. It takes its name from the novel A Strange Manuscript Found in a Copper Cylinder, by James De Mille (1833-1880), which is considered to be the first Canadian science fiction novel. The winners receive a unique, handcrafted, copper cylinder trophy.
Novel-length work in the Adult and Young Adult categories must meet all the eligibility criteria for the Sunburst Award and have been published in the calendar year previous to the award year.
Members are notified when the web ballot is active and have four weeks to vote. A minimum of 20% of the membership must vote to allow an award presentation in any given year.
Only members of the Sunburst Award Society may vote for Copper Cylinder awards. Please see our Membership Page to learn how to join.
